International Peace Day is held on the 21st of September worldwide. “The International Day of Peace “is meant to be a day of global cease-fire, when all countries and all people stop all hostilities for the entire day. And it is a day on which people around the world observe a minute of silence at 12 noon local time and let us pledge to do our utmost to carry out the important decisions on peace taken. International Peace Day symbolizes the meaning that there shall be no wars, no fights and no violence as we respect others, ourselves and everything that is around us.
Anyone, anywhere can celebrate Peace Day. It can be as simple as lighting a candle at noon, sitting in silent meditation, or doing a good deed for someone you do not know. Or it can involve getting your co-workers, organization, community or government engaged in a large event. The impact if millions of people in all parts of the world, coming together for one day of peace, is immense, and does make a difference.
The theme for 2013 is Education for peace
“It is not enough to teach children how to read, write and count. Education has to cultivate mutual respect for others and the world in which we live, and help people forge more just, inclusive and peaceful societies.” – UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon,
